Penland Custom Frames

Penland Custom Frames was opened March 4th,1996 .  That day represents beginnings and endings in my life and I loved being able to schedule the beginning of my own business then!!!

My name is Noni Penland and I own Penland Custom Frames.  We are located at 712 West market St. in downtown Greensboro.    I began working in picture framing in 1979 but really began to learn the fine art of framing in 1981 when I went to work for Roger Martin at Martin’s Frame and Art.  During the 12 years I worked for Roger he so very kindly taught me everything I know today about framing and I taught him a lot about customer service.  We are still the best of friends and enjoy each other’s company when ever we can.

I have two women who work with me at the frame shop and they are both extraordinary artist as well as excellent framers.  We really work as a team though we all have different tastes and of course opinions on most everything!!!!  There is no doubt that my business would not be what it is today with out them.  Lifelong artist and long time picture framer, Dianne Ellis, has been here since 1998, and relative newcomer, Kristi Parker, joined us this year.  We are very glad to have Kristi onboard, and I thank God for the two of them daily!!

Our main emphasis at Penland’s is quality.  I’m also a huge believer in offering the finest customer service available.  I believe our success is based on our ability to make EACH and EVERY frame job just as the customer would have it.  In fact we offer a guarantee to our customers.  If they don’t like the framing job we do we’ll gladly do it over at no additional charge.  I’m happy to say we don’t do many over!!

The framing industry has changed drastically in the past twenty five years and any framers job is made easier by educating their customers to these changes.  Here at Penland’s we choose to offer the highest quality materials to the customer and spend plenty of time explaining why we recommend these materials.  We’ll discuss ph balance in a heartbeat and for that matter anything else the customer wants to discuss!!  We’re big believers in laughter and making the framing experience as  much fun as we can while making sure the customer understands and visualizes the magic that will take place while their work is in our possession.

Among the more wonderful pieces we’ve had the opportunity to frame are heirloom garments ,antique objects, civil war memorabilia, tapestries, global artifacts, art by such masters as Renoir, Matisse, Picasso, Calder, Milton Avery, Raoul Dufy and Leroy Neiman just to mention a few.  Most recently we had the unique pleasure of shadow boxing one of Princess Diana’s cocktail gowns.  What fun we had!!!

No framing job is too small, too big or too challenging for us to tackle.  We welcome any and all to our one of a kind shop and would love the opportunity to serve you.  Please come see us!!!
