Penland Custom Frames History
Established in 1996 in downtown Greensboro, Penland Custom Frames has distinguished itself by its style and personality. It’s a shop filled with one of the most diverse collections of frame samples in the southeast. Artists, designers, loyal customers, and new clients all agree that Penland’s staff and their desire to please is the number one reason they are chosen time after time for top quality custom framing, so please stop by and see us. One really needs to visit Penland’s to understand its appeal.
Penland Custom Frames believes that every piece of artwork or object that comes through the door should be treated with respect. To that end, we give all our creativity and craftsmanship. From the usual to the unusual, from a poster to a Picasso, it’s our desire to serve you with creativity, professionalism and the honesty we’re known for.
The staff at Penland Custom Frames is trained in the latest techniques of archival framing. We continually study and learn the best ways to preserve your art. We offer conservation/museum grade in all options of framing. Several local museums and galleries trust Penland Custom Frames with their valuable work and we hope you will as well.
Dianne Ellis, a trusted member of Penland’s staff, is also a restorationist. Her specialties include the restoration of paintings and frames. She also offers a full range of calligraphy services.
At Penland Custom Frames mirrors have become one of our largest growing requests. We offer any size, most shapes, and many finishes. We welcome your imagination. Any number of traditional, as well as contemporary styles, are available.
Special Services and Finishes
One of the services for which Penland’s is best known is the art of shadowboxing. Realizing that items requiring a shadowbox are some of the most special, the entire staff is involved in creating boxes of unique design and distinction. Please ask us about the protection and display of your treasured pieces!
When the finish really matters, our staff is there to guide you. From rustic to lacquered finishes, genuine gold leaf to common leaf finishes, hand oiled to hand rubbed, we have them all. Our knowledge of gilding, antiquing, painting, and woodworking can provide custom finishes to complement any work of art.
These boxes can be created in traditional styles using wood for the frame and in a mere traditional, even contemporary style using an acrylic box.
