Located across from Greensboro College and alongside the Downtown Greenway, our shop is convenient to downtown Greensboro and its surrounding neighborhoods.
The bike lane now runs between the sidewalk and the parallel parking spaces on West Market St. Just pull into one of the marked spaces on the street side of the bike lane, and you’ll still be just steps from our door.
Additional parking is available in the gravel lot beside the building or on Cedar Street.
Our historic West Market building dates to the 1920s and carries about a century of Greensboro memories!

About the Building's History
The Shops on West Market have been part of Greensboro’s downtown landscape for nearly a century. Although modern property records give varying construction dates, city directories suggest that the main row of storefronts was built around 1926 or 1927.
From the beginning, the building served as a neighborhood shopping center. Early tenants included grocery stores, a drugstore, a produce company, an appliance and refrigeration business, and an ice cream plant. Located across from Greensboro College and near established residential neighborhoods, the shops provided many of the everyday goods and services local customers needed.
Over the years, the businesses changed, but the building’s purpose remained much the same. The original groceries and service shops gradually gave way to restaurants, salons, specialty retailers, and other locally owned businesses. Penland Custom Frames has occupied its storefront at 712 West Market since the 1990s, continuing the building’s long tradition of skilled, personal service.
Today, the brick storefront row remains a recognizable piece of West Market Street and a reminder of the small neighborhood commercial centers that helped Greensboro grow.
